the Oceanage was an instant success and remains so today!
It all started in 1972 with Realtec, Inc., a Ft. Lauderdale based community land development firm, which was a subsidiary of Certainteed-Frank Winnert, one of the nation’s largest producers of building materials.
The Oceanage casual design concept was created by Fort Lauderdale architect Donald Castner.According to press reports, all sales records were broken and all 180 units were quickly sold prior to completion of the floor plans! The easy lifestyle offered many comforts of a single residence, while avoiding the formality of high rise structure. Absent were elevators, lobby, and long corridors….the appeal was immediate….plus 800 feet of golden private beach.
